History
The Olive Tree
The historic symbol of peace, wisdom, glory, fertility, power and purity. From this beautiful tree we are blessed with the immortal goddess Athena’s greatest gift – olive oil. The story of her precious gift and the recognition of its value have been carried down through the millennia. According to Greek mythology, the creation of the olive tree was the result of a contest between Athena and the gods to determine who would become the protector of Attica which is the historical region of Greece. Even today, an olive tree stands where the story of this legendary competition is said to have taken place. The myth continues as a “living legend” as it is said that all the olive trees in Athens were descended from that first olive tree offered by Athena. From Greek olive groves, situated in the region of Elis, also known as Ilia, in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula, we share with you this finest gift in its purest form.
Elis Groves, Greek premium extra virgin olive oil is processed immediately after harvest, which raises the quality of the olive oil. This cold pressed premium extra virgin olive oil, which comes from early harvest oil is known as “agoureleo” which holds the highest amounts of polyphenols (anti-oxidants) that give extra virgin olive oil its much acclaimed health benefits. Our olive oil comes from “Koroneiki” olives. In Greece, the “Koroneiki” variety is considered ‘the queen of olives’ and is recognized globally as one of the preferred varietals for oil production and health benefits. The Koroneiki olive, picked while still green, is highly prized for its aromatic, deliciously robust flavor that leaves a pleasant zing in the throat, perfect for enjoying in its natural raw state or added at the end of cooking. Oil from the Koroneiki olive has a complex aroma, often with subtle hints of other herbs and vegetation growing in or near the groves.
